Description
The Town of Bowling Green has been awarded $6,206,205 in grant funds through the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) to help pay for treatment of Gross Alpha and well replacements.
Town Manager India Adams-Jacobs worked closely with the members of the General Assembly to secure the funding. The General Assembly approved $25 million in grant funding earlier this year, with priority for the Town of Bowling Green and Greene County.
“These funds will greatly assist the Town in its effort to overcome Gross Alpha and well replacement issues,” commented Adams-Jacobs.
The General Assembly can complete the grant award by placing the funds in the FY ’27 Budget.
Receiving the grant will be another large financial boost for the Town since Adams-Jacobs was appointed Town Manager in January 2024. Other external awards include:
· $2.7 million for water
· $45,000 in-kind technical assistance grant
· $120,000 in-kind engineering services for PER for wastewater treatment
· $70,00 in-kind for GIS services
· $3,500 technical assistance grant for Main Street economic development
· $14.1 million for VDOT Smart Scale project
Upgrading the utility infrastructure has been a high priority for Town Council over the last couple of years. More grants are planned to support the repair and replacement of water lines in the downtown area and address needs at the wastewater treatment plant.
