The Finance/Treasurer Department is responsible for providing financial information, payroll services, tax collection, and the administration of all other financial affairs of the town. It is also responsible for investing, disbursing, and collecting all Town monies, including personal property tax, real estate tax, and business property tax.

Real Estate Tax

Real estate taxes are assessed by the Caroline County Commissioner of Revenue based on property valuations as of January 1 each year. The bills are due and payable on or before December 5th. All property owners are mailed copies of their bills; however, if the property tax is paid via a third party, the bill will be mailed to the third party.

Personal Property Tax

Personal property tax on vehicles, boats, trailers, mobile homes, business property, etc., are assessed by the Caroline County Commissioner of the Revenue based on property valuations as of January 1 each year.  Personal property that is owned on January 1st and is garaged in the Town of Bowling Green will be billed to the corresponding owner for the entire year.  If the personal property is moved into the Town after January 1st, the property will not billed to the owner until the following year.  All property owners are mailed copies of their bills, due and payable on or before December 5th.

NOTE: You'll need to notify the Department of Motor Vehicles of trailer purchases.

The most important thing you can do as a property owner is to immediately notify the Department of Motor Vehicles once you have either purchased, sold, or disposed of the property or moved in or out of town. They can be reached via phone at 804-497-7100, online, or in person.

If you have purchased, sold, or disposed of a boat or jet ski, you will need to notify the Department of Wildlife Resources of the boat or jet ski.  They can be reached via phone at 866-721-6911 or online.
