PUBLIC NOTICE of Sanitary Sewer Smoke Testing and CCTV Inspection

The Town of Bowling Green and Inboden Environmental Services will be conducting smoke testing and closed-circuit television (CCTV) inspections on portions of the sanitary sewer collection system beginning November 18 and continuing through approximately November 19, weather permitting. 

Purpose of the Work

These inspections are part of an ongoing effort to evaluate the condition and performance of the sanitary sewer system. Smoke testing helps identify defects such as cracks, leaks, or illegal connections that allow stormwater to enter the sanitary system. CCTV inspections allow crews to view the inside of sewer pipes to assess their condition and plan for any necessary maintenance or repairs. 

What to Expect

- Non-toxic smoke will be blown into the sewer system and may appear from roof vents, yard drains, or cracks in the ground. The smoke is harmless, non-staining, and will dissipate within a few minutes. 
- If you see smoke entering your home or business, it may indicate a problem with your plumbing traps or connections. Please contact field personnel immediately. 
- Testing will typically occur between 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. each day. 
- You do not need to be home during the testing, but it is recommended that you pour water into all drains, sinks, and floor drains to ensure traps are filled, which helps prevent smoke from entering indoor spaces.

Resident Cooperation

We ask for your cooperation while crews perform this important work. Testing and inspection crews will be clearly identified and will not need to enter homes. Access to streets and driveways will be maintained as much as possible during the process.
